  • Orbiter Med FAQs | Kalogon

Orbiter Med FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions about Orbiter Med from Kalogon Orbiter Med FAQs How do I determine if Orbiter Med is right for my patients? Kalogon relies on clinical evaluations to determine if the Orbiter Med custom cushion is appropriate for your unique seating, positioning, and i pressure management needs. We recommend you initiate your purchase through specialized seating providers such as a seating clinic, a licensed/certified medical professional such as a phvsical therapist (PT) or occupational therapist (OT, or Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS), preferably a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP). Orbiter Med is not available directly to consumers. To determine how the Orbiter Med can best meet your needs or your patient's needs, please contact the Kalogon team through the contact form or by calling +1 321-465-4504 . How can Orbiter Med be customized for my needs? Orbiter Med offers many custom design options which allow you to tailor fit Orbiter Med to your specific seating, positioning, and pressure management requirements -- additional customizations are available. Orbiter Med is custom designed and individually fabricated by seating crafts people. Each is built fit to the needs of the user, no two are alike. Each is custom made to satisfy requirements that can’t sufficiently be satisfied by a prefabricated seating system. To determine whether or not Orbiter Med can meet your needs or your patient’s needs, please contact the Kalogon team through our website or by calling +1 321-465-4504 Is Orbiter Med available for seating situations beyond wheelchairs such as recliners or other places my patients may sit? Yes! Kalogon works with clinicians to find optimal seating, positioning, and pressure management solutions for complex custom seating situations such as recliners, car seats, home office chairs, or any place patients may sit for extended periods of time beyond their wheelchair. Kalogon will only construct these cushions in consultation with the clinician and additional charges may apply. My patient has ___ seating issue, can Orbiter Med help with that? All specialized seating providers need to assess each patient’s individual cushion needs. Please contact Kalogon to determine if Orbiter Med is appropriate for your patient’s needs. You can contact the Kalogon team through our website or by calling +1 321-465-4504. Do my patients have to use the Advanced Pressure Management System (APMS)? In order to truly experience all the seating, positioning, and pressure management benefits the Kalogon Orbiter Med has to offer, it is recommended that your patients use APMS, even though the cushion can be used without it. APMS is included as a standard feature in all Orbiter Med cushions, offering unparalleled pressure management and comfort by allowing a clinician to set levels of inflation, to program various presets for different seating situations, and to set the frequency of dynamic motion. The Orbiter Med cushion is still custom fabricated based on each patient’s unique seating and positioning requirements - needs that can’t sufficiently be satisfied by a prefabricated seating system. Is Orbiter Med from Kalogon available from local medical supply stores? To order Orbiter Med, if you are a clinician, please contact us to discuss your patient’s needs. Kalogon also has representatives in certain regions who work directly with clinicians- reach out to our team to get connected to the representative near you. If you are a patient, please work with your specialized seating provider such as a seating clinic, a licensed/certified medical professional such as a physical therapist (PT) or occupational therapist (OT, or Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS), preferably a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) who can contact the Kalogon team through our website or by calling +1 321-465-4504 . How much weight does Orbiter Med weigh? Orbiter Med weighs 5 - 8 pounds depending on the size of the cushion, the modifications and customizations made, and which accessories are added. This includes the weight of the control box which is the brains behind the Air Pressure Management System. What are the dimensions available for Orbiter Med? Kalogon can produce cushions from 15 x 15 to 27 x 27. If you have a question about sizing, please work with your local provider who can discuss dimensions and options with the Kalogon team. If you feel like you need something different, please work with your local provider who will discuss options and pricing with the Kalogon team. Is Orbiter Med available in half sizes? Orbiter Med is completely customizable based on measurements taken by your clinician, including many additional customizations beyond size. Please have your clinician reach out to the Kalogon team to discuss the size you need. What is the fabric used for Orbiter’s Med cover? Orbiter Med uses a fabric with four-way stretch that is water resistant and machine washable, allowing for comfort. Is the cushion cover washable? Yes, the Orbiter Med cushion cover is machine washable. Please wash in cold water and air dry. Do not put your Orbiter Med cushion cover into the dryer. How do I wash my Orbiter Med cover? You can wash your Orbiter Med cushion cover in a machine with cold water and air dry it. Do not put it into the dryer, even on a low heat. What is a preset and how can I use them? When using the Kalogon app in partnership with your Orbiter Med, your clinician can create up to 10 presets. Presets allow you to specify what level of pressure your clinician recommends for various situations for each of the air cells in the APMS. These presets can be saved for ongoing use. You can label these in the app so you know what situation each preset is designed for. Presets can be used to address different situations such as switching the cushion between different wheelchairs, in a vehicle driver or passenger seat, in your favorite chair, while out of your chair, or even on an airplane. Some presets have even been used for situations like for eating, or for different pairs of shoes. What accessories are available for Orbiter Med? Orbiter Med offers a few key accessories including an extender, which allows you to turn on and off the Advanced Pressure Management System. For those using power chairs, there is an XLR charger, which allows you to power off the chair. When ordering, there is the option to select either a mounting kit or a mount pouch to attach the control box to your wheelchair. How long is the battery life for Orbiter Med? Orbiter Med will last 14 - 20 hours depending on settings, how you shift and move, and the redistribution settings. What is the weight limit for Orbiter Med? Orbiter Med can now accommodate weights up to 550 pounds. If you have additional accommodation needs, please contact your Kalogon representative to discuss. Can I get a demo? Kalogon develops seating and positioning solutions for people who spend extended periods of time seated, including wheelchair users who may need pressure management, postural support, customized positioning, or help maintaining their seating system. Product selection should be based on the individual’s clinical presentation, functional goals, environment, and seating needs. What problems does Kalogon help address? Kalogon products are designed to help address challenges associated with prolonged sitting, including sustained tissue loading, pressure injury risk, positioning needs, postural asymmetries, changing activity requirements, trunk support, and the maintenance of air-based wheelchair cushions. Each Kalogon product addresses a different part of the seating system and should be selected with the user’s clinical and functional needs in mind. What makes Kalogon different from traditional wheelchair seating companies? Kalogon combines clinically informed seating design with technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes intended to improve seated health. Its solutions include active pressure management, app-supported seating adjustments, custom back support, variable-density 3D-printed lattice, dual-density foam, digital ordering tools, and products that help automate the maintenance of air cushions. Kalogon also designs and manufactures its custom seating products in the United States and continues to develop proprietary manufacturing and 3D-printing techniques. What does “seated health” mean? Seated health refers to how a person’s seating system supports their body, tissue health, posture, comfort, function, and daily activities over time. Kalogon approaches seated health as more than the selection of a cushion or back support. It involves considering how the entire seating experience affects the person, the clinicians supporting them, their caregivers, and their ability to participate in everyday life. How can Kalogon products support people who sit for extended periods of time? Kalogon products address different challenges associated with prolonged sitting. Orbiter Med provides scheduled, localized pressure redistribution through Kalogon’s Advanced Pressure Management System. Verro provides customized positioning and a seated surface shaped around the individual. Bondar supports trunk positioning and postural goals, while Booster helps maintain the inflation level of compatible air cushions. These products support, rather than replace, individualized clinical recommendations, regular skin monitoring, pressure-relief practices, and other components of the user’s care plan. How do I know which Kalogon product is right for me or my customer? Verro may be appropriate when the user needs an intimate custom fit, significant positioning support, or a consistent seated surface shaped closely around the body. Bondar may be considered when customized trunk and back support are needed. Booster may be appropriate when the goal is to maintain the inflation level of a compatible air cushion.A qualified clinician, ATP, dealer, or Kalogon representative can help evaluate the available options.
